East side is the best

We have just returned from our holiday within a holiday. We went to Punta del Este (Monte Carlo of South America) for one night and stayed with a friend and her family. Punta del Este is a crazy place full of Argentines and Brazilians but the beaches were beautiful so you can understand why everyone flocks to this city for their holiday.

After Punta del Este, we got into a very over filled pick up truck and went further East to Punta del Diablo. This little town gets full to bursting point in January but otherwise is deserted. It's everything that Punta Del Este isn't. Diablo is calmer and the people aren't so obsessed with their looks and where the best place to be seen is. We stayed with another of the Brugnini clan and his friends for a crazy New Years' Eve and a few days after.

It turns out that Uruguayans don't go out till late, like they leave for the boliche (club) at 4am in the morning, most of the girls would have a nap between midnight and 3am and then get up and go out! Crazyness! We had a pretty good time though and ate far too many asados, including an entire lamb.

The beaches in Punta del Diablo are great and the surf looked pretty good too. It was quite strange though because they really reminded us of Cornwall beaches except they were a lot hotter! Matt, being the English man that he is remained with top on and under an umbrella for the entire few beach days. While me being an English girl desperately tried everything to get a bit tanned.
